Making her grand return to the Drumcode label, the undisputed “Queen of the Underground” Nicole Moudaber is back with her debut LP Believe! Featuring several of Moudaber’s long-awaited and highly anticipated original mixes, as well as some completely new grooves, the Believe album is nothing short of pure, fiery, club-banging techno!
Following up from her previous releases with the Sonic Language EP and The Journey Begins EP on Drumcode, Nicole Moudaber’s Believe LP consists of 10 tracks, all original mixes, including a collaboration with techno legend Adam Beyer. Moudaber sets the tone off right with Lumiere Tamisee, a percussive and synth-stabbing build-up track, leading us into Movin’ On, a dance floor bomb (or as us Moudaber fans call them, Moudabombs) with a hypnotic groove and deep bass-line, a track that Nicole has been teasing us with in her sets for quite some time. Take Hold is the anticipated collaboration with Drumcode head honcho Adam Beyer, a big track at this year’s WMC that we heard both artists, as well as several others from the Drumcode family, drop live, and the distorted chords, vocal top-line, and darker vibe will leave this track haunting you in a good way.
Come And Lay is another one of Nicole Moudaber’s original mixes that we’ve been waiting on, and it features her own vocals over the much-loved industrial techno sound, with a drop of the bass so perfect after the break that it will blow your mind. Do Your Thing switches it up with a different techier sound and energetic sound effects, another great build-up track that leads into Fly With You, another Moudabomb we’ve been hearing for some time, and also a personal favorite off of the Believe LP. The euphoric nature of the track, especially half-way through at the break where the uplifting chords takeover the forefront before falling back into the deep rolling groove will take you far away; after hearing Moudaber close her set with this at the Shelborne pool during WMC this year, it left us absolutely speechless. Get On It is another banger using the industrial techno sound, where as Liberum Spirita brings back the dreaminess with euphoric breakdowns. Big Love With No Apology is darker and techier, a track we haven’t heard yet but can’t wait to hear live, and the Believe LP reaches it’s end with Can I Get Some, a funky groover that will leave you hanging and wanting more!
Overall, Believe shows off Moudaber’s versatility and creativity as a producer, whether it be from the hard-hitting, dance floor destructiveness of tracks like Come And Lay and Movin’ On, to the uplifting, euphoric nature of tracks like Fly With You and Liberum Spirita. With big releases on other labels like the Roar EP on Carl Cox’s Intec label and the fresh start of her own label, In The Mood, there is no slowing down for the Underground Queen!
