GENRE(S): Progressive House

When he’s not fighting with Madonna on Twitter, trolling Skrillex, or playing with his famous cat Meowingtons, Joel Zimmerman, or Deadmau5, is busy in his studio making masterpieces like The Veldt. For some time now, Deadmau5 has been teasing us with this track, since first toying with the sound of it in his new studio on Ustream. Featured on Friday night’s episode of Pete Tong’s Essential Mix, we got to hear a finished version of The Veldt, which Deadmau5 is claiming to be a radio edit, with the original mix still to be revealed. Although he is typically known for his electro house bangers like the more recent Maths, or harder tracks like SOFI Needs A Ladder, The Veldt is not what we are used to hearing from Deadmau5, but that’s not a bad thing. The progressive sound of the track, with the beautiful melody and vocals by Chris James, puts the listener in a different world, and it really shows Deadmau5’s talent as an overall producer.

Based on the Ray Bradbury short story of the same name, Chris James, a talented singer basically scouted by Deadmau5 on Twitter, hit the nail on the head with his vocals, as they fit perfectly with the original theme of the story. As we don’t get to hear so much new stuff from Deadmau5 so often, it’s because of the time and effort put into each track, with his custom sounds and all. Songs like Professional Griefers still have yet to be released, but as mentioned in his spot on Swedish House Mafia’s BBC Radio 1 Takeover, this is going to be a big production year for the Mau5. We hope to hear the full release of The Veldt (and hopefully his next studio album) soon!
