Last weekend, House4DJ had the chance to go to Thomas Gold’s sold out Fanfare Tour at Roseland Ballroom in New York City, and as we imagined it to be, the show was incredible! Having been on tour across the globe for the last few months, and finally into the United States with shows stretching all the way from Los Angeles to Miami, this New York City stop was the last for the USA leg of the tour. With a sold out show at Roseland, plus previous big stops throughout the year in NYC like Electric Daisy Carnival NYC, Cosmic Opera with Axwell, and headlining Pacha NYC, it felt as if this party was actually an NYC homecoming party for the German born Thomas Gold!
The supporting acts for the Fanfare Tour, like Thomas Gold, were not strangers to the Axtone/Size Records family. Setting the tone for the night were the Australian duo Feenixpawl and Italian duo Nari & Milani. Unfortunately, we did not get to see Feenixpawl’s set, but we were there for all of Nari & Milani’s.
Nari & Milani played a phenomenal set, dropping bombs like their own original track Kendo and Hard Rock Sofa’s Here We Go, as well as commercial fan favorites like the acapella of Ellie Goulding’s Lights and Usher Feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris’ Yeah. The Italian duo also dropped some truly impressive mash-ups, like Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall acapella with Albin Myers’ Hells Bells, and Linkin Park’s Numb with their own remix of Topher Jones’ Brohammer. Last, but certainly not least, Nari & Milani finished their set with their massive hit Atom, leaving the fans wanting more, but having us ready for who was about to take over the decks next.
The Fanfare Tour promised to include a ton of surprises, and with a venue like Roseland Ballroom known for pulling out all the stops when wowing the crowd, we could have only imagined what more could be in store for us! As promised, Thomas Gold’s show did not let us down! Before he took the stage, a flourish of trumpet players (see video) surprised the crowd by playing the 20th Century Fox Theme, and the countdown began, with Thomas Gold taking the stage and opening for the wild crowd with his latest track MIAO, accompanied by CO2 cannons and confetti galore!
Thomas Gold pleased the crowd throughout the night with tracks of all kinds, bouncing through all of our favorite original mixes, remixes, and mash-ups. Early on he dropped a personal favorite, his remix to Miike Snow’s The Wave, as well as Calvin Harris & Florence Welch’s Sweet Nothing w/ Dirty South & Michael Brun’s Rift, and eventually toned it down with his original mix Eyes Wide Open. As he played this, the beautiful dancers, dressed as toy soldiers, lined the stage, gracefully twirling streamers and waving flags as they marched to the music, eventually leading the crowd into a dancing frenzy (see video).
Thomas Gold picked up the pace after that, going hard into electro and progressive house bangers, dropping everything from Deniz Koyu’s Bong to Swedish House Mafia favorites Leave The World Behind and Sing2Me w/ Alright acapella, as well as Fanfare and his famous remix to Adele’s Set Fire To The Rain! Inflatable trumpets filled the crowd, entertainers on stilts took turns on stage with the toy soldier dancers as well as a drum-line, and CO2, confetti, lasers, and an incredible sound system all joined together harmoniously as Thomas Gold, the conductor of this orchestra, led the energetic crowd through an experience they would never forget.
New York City warmly embraced Thomas Gold, and with a sold out headlining show like this, we can only wonder what will come next when Thomas Gold is back in town! Thank you to RPM, Pacha NYC, and Thomas Gold for a night we will always remember! The next leg of the Fanfare Tour will take place in South America and Europe; have a look at the tour dates below!
